We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessie Marcus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I once wrote a blog entitled “Life is change and I object!” and I still feel close to that sentiment. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one to want a repetitious boring life but change has frequently felt overwhelming and sparked that holy @#$% out of control sensation. So how do I respond to opportunity or change when I clearly prefer a permanent address in the illusion of the safety zone?

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Marcus.
Hi Jessie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I consider myself a very lucky girl. Through several decades and a multitude of incarnations, I have been fortunate to follow my nudges and work with exceptional humans in careers that I love. It’s been a wild and wonderful ride(and still is) and I am grateful for it all. Mother, daughter, artist, producer, and mentor, all are roles that inform me in rich and deep ways and contribute to the eclectic tapestry that is my life.

Curiosity is one of my favorite things about being human.
It’s gentle, it’s inviting, a little mysterious, and honestly, way more fun than perfectionism could ever dream of being.
Have you ever noticed that most creative moments big or small start with a tiny spark of hmm... what if?
That’s curiosity. Not always loud. Not always dramatic. Just a nudge.
And despite what we’re sometimes taught (or at least what I was taught), creativity isn’t just for people who call themselves artists. It’s in anyone who has ever tried a new recipe, rearranged furniture at 9 p.m. “just because,” chosen a new color to wear, or followed an unexpected idea simply to see where it might take them.
